Summary

Matrix Biolage Anti Dandruff Shampoo is a luxurious shampoo with a very interesting combination of active ingredients. Unfortunately there are a few unwanted ingredients in there that can cause contact dermatitis in some of us. With a few tweaks I wold recommend this to all seb derm sufferers. As it is though, some caution is advised.

buy now on Amazon I have to admit, before this review I had never heard of Matrix or their Biolage range so I honestly had no expectations at all with this shampoo.  What first struck me was the quality of bottle design; this looks like a real salon shampoo.  When I looked at the price I could see why.  Cheap this isn’t!

The shampoo is pearlescent white with a delightful but not too overpowering fresh fruity smell.  For someone used to slapping coal tar on my scalp this came as a very welcome surprise.

The wash felt very luxurious and my hair was suitably moisturized.  All-round this was a very pleasant experience.
So how did the shampoo perform?

This shampoo combines two active ingredients:

I’m personally a big fan of this combination.  I wouldn’t use it all the time as Salicyclic Acid can dry the scalp after prolonged use but it is an extremely powerful combination all the same.   Is this the perfect shampoo for those of us who have irregular moderate outbreaks of Seborrheic Dermatitis?

The rest of the ingredients are a disappointment.  The shampoo contains formaldehyde releasers, parabens, ethanol and at least a couple of harsh perfumes.  All of which are known contact allergens which can irritate those of use with sensitive skin.

This is a really nice shampoo so its a shame the allergens are so harsh.  As it is though, I thoroughly recommend Vichy Dercos, which contains the exact same active ingredients, has much gentler ingredients at a more affordable price.
